How do I update a customer's credentials without a new connector?
Updated 4 days ago
Relink the existing connector. Relinking replaces the credentials behind the connector and keeps its connector_token, sync history and record IDs, so you never need to delete it and start again.
When you need to relink
The provider's token expired and the connector shows Relink Needed.
Your customer rotated a key or secret. Some providers require this on a schedule: Paylocity, for example, requires a new client secret every 365 days. These rules come from the provider and still apply when the connection runs through Bindbee.
The integration user's password or access changed.
Relink a connector
Open the connector under Connectors. A connector that needs re-authorization shows a Relink Needed banner, and Force Sync is disabled.
Click Relink Connector and choose a method:
Regenerate Magic Link creates an updated link for the same connector. Send it to your customer so they can complete the authorization again.
Update Credentials lets you enter the new credentials yourself, if your customer has already sent them to you.
After the connector is relinked, trigger a sync instead of waiting for the next scheduled run, and check the run completed in the sync history.
If the connector isn't in Relink Needed yet
If your customer sends new credentials before the old ones stop working, contact us. We can set the connector to Relink Needed so you can relink it, or update the value (for example a client_secret) for you.
Don't delete the connector to reconnect. Deleting removes its data and history, and every record comes back with a new Bindbee ID.
If relinking doesn't fix it
If the sync fails the same way after relinking, the credentials work but lack access to some data. Check the permissions in the setup guide for that system. If several connectors on the same integration fail at the same time, contact us so we can check for a wider issue.
